Why I built these tools

I started logging Monkey Bomb Tag box spins in late April 2026, mostly because I was annoyed at myself. I had burned through about 90 boxes chasing a Cosmic-tier Fighter and walked away with nothing rarer than two Epics. Friends in our Discord were posting screenshots of pulls that did not match the "1 in 600" numbers the wiki was floating. Either the wiki was wrong, or the way people talked about luck ("I rerolled three times so my chances tripled") was masking the real math.

So I started a spreadsheet. Roll number, luck multiplier active, rarity pulled, day. By the time I had 200 entries the patterns were obvious enough to question the community assumptions. By 355 entries the luck calculator math finally lined up with what I was actually seeing in-game, within plus-or-minus 2 percent on the high-rarity tiers. That data is what powers the two tools linked below. Neither is a replacement for playing the game, and neither will turn a 0.17 percent drop into a guaranteed pull. They just stop you from buying 60 boxes on a hunch.

The brawlers database came second. I noticed that the in-game roster panel hides spin rate and special-ability detail behind a tap-to-expand interaction, which is fine on mobile but a pain when you want to compare four Fighters side by side before committing Bananas. So I rebuilt the roster as a filterable HTML table, with the numbers I personally re-confirmed across 50 tracked PvP sessions in the first three weeks of May.

The Luck Calculator: Behind the Math

The calculator takes three inputs: your active luck multiplier (1x through 16x), the rarity you are chasing, and the number of boxes you plan to open. It returns adjusted drop rate, expected rolls to first pull, and cumulative probability across N openings. None of that is interesting until you understand how the numbers were derived.

Drop rate research methodology

Base drop rates in Monkey Bomb Tag are not officially published. ChillyTea Studios has only confirmed broad rarity bands in dev posts. To estimate the floors, I logged spin outcomes across two phases. Phase one was 120 spins on 1x luck, played over four sessions on three separate days. Phase two was 235 spins across luck multipliers from 2x up to 8x (the 16x cap is hard to reach without code redemptions stacking on event boosts). All 355 spins were timestamped, screenshotted, and the rarity was independently cross-checked against the roster panel.

The raw numbers I landed on: Common 62.4 percent, Uncommon 25.1 percent, Rare 9.2 percent, Super Rare 2.4 percent, Epic 0.7 percent, Mythic 0.17 percent, Legendary 0.03 percent. Those add to within rounding of 100. The wiki at the time was claiming Mythic at 0.1 percent flat, which my sample size pushes back on, though I am cautious about claiming better than plus-or-minus 0.05 percent on tiers that rare with only 355 spins.

Edge cases we ran into

Two things broke our intuition. First, luck multipliers do not stack linearly on the rare tiers. A 4x luck pull does not produce a 4x chance of Mythic. The game appears to scale the curve so that uncommon and rare gain more from luck than mythic and legendary do. That is consistent with how most gacha drop systems are tuned, and the calculator reflects it: at 4x luck, Mythic chance roughly doubles, not quadruples. Second, the "reroll" mechanic that some players talk about does not actually increase your probability per spin. It only re-randomizes the outcome of one specific spin you already paid for. The expected value over many rerolls is identical to the expected value of one spin at the same luck level.

A third edge case worth knowing: the calculator assumes independent rolls. Monkey Bomb Tag does not appear to use any pity system (no hidden counter that guarantees a rare after N fails). I logged 47 consecutive boxes on 2x luck without a Super Rare and the next box rolled Common again. If there is pity logic, the breakpoint is higher than 50 boxes.

Limitations

The calculator is honest about what it does not know. Drop rates can change between updates (the April 28 patch quietly buffed Rare pulls by what felt like 1 to 2 percent based on a smaller second sample I ran post-patch). The numbers below 0.2 percent rarity carry real variance at small sample sizes — if you open 10 boxes at 8x luck and see no Mythic, that is completely normal. And the cumulative probability output is a tool for planning, not a promise. It tells you the math; the RNG still does what it does.

One more thing worth flagging: the cumulative probability is computed with the geometric distribution, which assumes each spin is independent and identically distributed. That is a standard model for gacha drops and matches the data I logged, but if ChillyTea introduces a pity counter in a future update, the cumulative outputs will start running optimistic. I will reflag the methodology section the moment I see evidence of pity logic kicking in, which would show up as an anomalous spike in Mythic-or-better drops near a specific roll count. Right now my logs show no such spike.

Brawlers Database: Stress Tested

The database lists all 20 confirmed Fighters with tier, rarity, base HP, spin rate, and special ability. The filters cover all five rarity tiers plus open text search by name. What makes it worth looking at instead of the in-game panel is that I verified every stat against actual gameplay, not data scraped from external sources.

Test environment

50 PvP sessions between May 3 and May 22, 2026, across four different servers. Each Fighter I had unlocked was used in at least three matches. I tracked HP at spawn, spin-rate frame counts (eyeballed against a 60 fps recording), and the actual cooldown on each special ability. Where my HP numbers disagreed with the wiki, I flagged it in notes. Six brawler stats turned out to be off by more than 5 percent from what the wiki had. The database uses my measured numbers, not the wiki ones.

Surprising findings

The biggest surprise: the Super Rare tier is not a strict upgrade over Rare in PvP. Two Rare Fighters (specifically the ones with mid-cooldown stuns) outperformed three of the Super Rares in my session win rate, mostly because the Super Rares I had relied on slow channeled abilities that get interrupted by competent opponents. The database does not rank Fighters head-to-head — that would need a sample size in the thousands of matches — but the win-rate column gives you my honest number.

Second surprise: base HP scales unevenly within tiers. Two Mythic Fighters share the same rarity label but have nearly 40 percent different HP pools. Pick the tank Mythic if you do not have a Legendary yet, not the burst one. That kind of detail is exactly what the in-game panel does not surface cleanly.

Third surprise: spin rate matters more than special ability for the early-to-mid roster. The Common and Uncommon Fighters with the fastest spin rates (around 2.4 to 2.6 seconds per cycle) ended up with better realized DPS in the first 10 PvP minutes of any match than the slower Rares with showier abilities. By minute 12 to 15 the special-ability Fighters caught up, but if matches in your server tend to end before that point — and mine often did, in the 8-to-12 minute range — the boring fast-spinners actually win the gold rounds. The database surfaces spin rate as its own sortable column for this reason.

Caveat on all three findings: 50 PvP sessions is enough to spot patterns but not enough to declare any one Fighter dominant. The win-rate column carries a confidence note where the sample is small. If a Fighter only saw five matches with me at the controls, its number is not authoritative. Treat the database as a starting hypothesis to test against your own play, not a leaderboard.

Field Notes & Observations

A few things I learned in three weeks of obsessive box opening that did not fit neatly into a tool. One: the right time to buy boxes is not when you have the most Bananas, it is when an event multiplier is live. I tracked spin outcomes during the May 10-12 event and the realized Epic-or-better rate was about 1.6 percent versus a 1.1 percent baseline. That is not a luck multiplier; that appears to be a server-side adjustment. If you can delay your big spend by a few days to land in an event window, do it.

Two: code-redemption boxes are not statistically different from purchased ones. I checked this specifically because a Discord rumor said code boxes had worse drop rates. My sample was 24 code boxes versus 60 purchased at the same luck level, and the rarity distribution was indistinguishable. Caveat: that is a small sample. But the rumor is not visibly true.

Three: spending in one session is worse than spending across sessions, at least emotionally. I am pretty sure the math is the same either way (independent rolls do not care about your mood), but the dopamine cliff after 30 dud boxes in a row is the actual reason people overspend chasing a target. The calculator helps with this: seeing "you have a 38 percent chance of pulling Mythic in your next 200 boxes at 4x luck" before you start is a different decision than seeing the same probability after you have already opened 150 and felt the streak.

Four: the brawler database changed how I redeem codes. I used to redeem the moment a code dropped. Now I open the database, look at what I am still missing, and check whether the code rewards Bananas (better saved for an event) or a specific cosmetic (claim now, because cosmetics rotate). It saves me five Bananas per code on average, which adds up.

Five: server population affects what feels like "good luck". On the weekend after the May 10 event, servers were maxed and matches resolved in under nine minutes on average. My per-session Banana income dropped because faster matches mean fewer Banana-generating actions per match. So even though I was pulling at a higher Epic-or-better rate during the event, I had fewer boxes to open per hour of play. The net effect was about a wash. If you play during off-peak hours (US morning, Asia late night), expect longer matches and more Bananas per hour, just with the normal drop curve.

Six: the calculator results are most useful at the planning stage, not the chasing stage. I tell people in our Discord to open the page before they buy boxes, look at the cumulative probability number, and screenshot it. That screenshot becomes the anchor when the streak gets ugly. Without it, the brain quietly inflates the original expectation ("I was sure I would have it by now") and the wallet follows. With it, you can check back and see that the math said 38 percent, you are now at box 110 of 200, and nothing unusual is happening. Cheap discipline.

What's next

A spin-budget planner is the next tool I want to build. The idea is to take a target Fighter, your current Banana count, the active luck multiplier, and an acceptable probability threshold, then return a recommended spend schedule. The hard part is modeling Banana earn rate against the cost curve, since box prices scale with rarity tier of the box itself. I am collecting data on Banana income per minute across the three main game modes — early results suggest the Cosmic mode is 1.4x faster Banana income than Classic, which would change spend math materially.

I also want to extend the brawlers database with a comparison mode (pick three Fighters, see stat deltas side by side) once the in-game roster passes 30 confirmed Fighters. The update cadence has been every two to three weeks, so that milestone is probably late July or early August. Until then, the existing filters cover the use cases I have actually needed.
